These are the Terms and Conditions which apply when buying goods from sainsburys.co.uk (except orders from our grocery service for which there are separate Terms and Conditions below). Please read this agreement carefully.
These represent the Terms and Conditions for using this service. If you do not agree to these, then you may not use this Website.
You are permitted to use our Website solely on the basis of these Terms and Conditions.
We reserve the right, at our discretion, to update and/or revise these Terms and Conditions. Please check periodically for changes.

Please note that all calls to us are free from BT land lines, mobile providers and other networks may vary. Calls may be recorded for training and security purposes.
1.1 To register with sainsburys.co.uk and purchase goods from our Website you must be over eighteen years of age. You must ensure that the details provided by you on registration or at any time are correct and complete. You must inform us immediately of any changes to the information that you provided when registering by updating your personal details. You must give us your real name, address, phone number, email address and any other details that we may require to process your order.
1.2 We reserve the right to:
• Decline a new customer registration or suspend a customer's account at any time and at our sole discretion.
• Sainsbury's reserves the right, in our absolute discretion, to terminate your access to all or part of the services with or without notice.
• Sainsbury's reserves the right in our absolute discretion to discontinue the Website or services, or any part thereof, at any time, with or without notice.
2.1 Goods are subject to availability. If for any reason beyond our reasonable control we are unable to supply a particular item, we will not be liable to you except to ensure that you are not charged for that item. In the event that we are unable to supply the goods, we will inform you of this as soon as possible. A full refund will be given where you have already paid for the goods.
2.2 Some items are only available to purchasers above a certain age. These are clearly marked.
3.1 To ensure availability of all our products, customers may be limited to a maximum number of items. Goods will not be supplied for the purposes of resale, and are only supplied for a customer’s own use as a consumer.We reserve the right to refuse orders that we consider are for commercial or non-domestic purposes or subject to onward delivery by a third party. Orders for more than 12 units of a single product line may be fulfilled subject to availability and at the discretion of the store. Quantities of goods supplied per order may be limited if the order limits availability for other customers or creates a potential health and safety issue for our drivers.
4.1 We have selected our products on the basis that they will be used for domestic use only. Where you decide to use the products in the course of a business, we exclude (to the fullest extent permitted by law) those warranties and conditions relating to fitness for a particular purpose.
5.1 The prices which you must pay for the products that you order are set out on the Website at the time you place your order (plus a delivery charge). Our site contains a large number of products and it is always possible that, despite our best efforts, some of the products listed on our site may be incorrectly priced. If a product’s correct price is higher than the price stated on our site, we are under no obligation to supply the product to you at this price and will inform you as soon as possible to give you the option of reconfirming your order at the correct price or cancelling it. If we are unable to contact you we will treat the order as cancelled.
5.2 The prices quoted on this Website apply only to products sold via this Website. Where the same products are available in our stores or via our Grocery Website different prices may apply.
5.3 All prices are shown in £s sterling and include VAT
5.4 Although we will take all reasonable care to ensure that all descriptions, details and prices of products appearing on the Website are correct at the time when the information was inputted onto the system, the information appearing on this Website at any time may not reflect the exact position at the moment you place an order.
5.5 Please be aware that the colours and appearance of our products may vary slightly from the way they appear on the screen and we cannot guarantee that your monitor screen will accurately reflect the colour of the product on delivery. All measurements and sizes are approximate, although we make every effort to ensure that they are as accurate as possible.
6.1 The Order Acknowledgement email and order number are not an order confirmation or order acceptance from us. Acceptance of your order and the completion of the contract between you and us will take place on despatch to you of the products ordered unless we have notified you that we do not accept your order or you have cancelled it. Where items are despatched separately, our acceptance of the order in respect of each item takes place when that item is dispatched. Our carrier will make every reasonable effort to contact you to make delivery, but if they are unable to do so then your order will be cancelled and payment refunded to your card. Where you use our Click & Collect service, acceptance of your order will take place when the goods are available for collection by you at your nominated collection store.
6.2 We are not permitted to sell a knife or blade, alcohol or age restricted products to any person under the age of 18.
6.3 We will inform the TV Licensing Authority of your name, address and order details if you place an order for a television or television receiving equipment.
7.1 We take payment from your card at the time we receive your order, once we have checked your card details and stock availability. Payment must be made with a valid credit or debit card acceptable to us. The address at which the card is registered must be the same as your billing address. You can register a new payment card at any time, but the card associated with a given order cannot be changed once you have checked out.
7.2 To ensure that your credit, debit or charge card is not being used without your consent, we will validate name, address and other personal information supplied by you during the order process against appropriate third party databases. By accepting these Terms and Conditions you consent to such checks being made. In performing these checks personal information provided by you may be disclosed to a registered Credit Reference Agency which may keep a record of that information. This is done only to confirm your identity, a credit check is not performed and your credit rating will be unaffected.
7.3 Nectar points cannot be used as payment for all or part of an order.
7.4 Sainsbury’s gift vouchers and gift cards may be exchanged for goods in all Sainsbury’s stores. They may not be used to purchase goods or services online, or in petrol stations.
7.5 Coupons issued at store tills are not redeemable online.
8.1 We deliver to mainland UK and Northern Ireland addresses. We cannot deliver to the Channel Islands, Isle of Man, Orkney, Shetland and Scottish Islands, BFPO addresses, or the Republic of Ireland. We reserve the right to charge a surcharge to deliver to Northern Ireland. Some larger items cannot be delivered to Northern Ireland at the moment. Delivery charges apply. Details of our delivery charges can be found in the Delivery section on our Home page.
8.2 Our policy on delivering large domestic appliances may be found in the Useful Information/Delivery section on our Home Page. Please read the notes on preparing for your appliances delivery before purchase.
8.3 Provided that we have processed and received payment in full for the products, ownership of an item will pass to you once we have delivered the item to you (either directly, or by leaving it in a safe place or with a neighbour, or, where you have used our Click & Collect service, when the goods are handed to you or your representative at your nominated collection store). When an item has been delivered, risk of damage to, or loss of, the item passes to you.
8.4 By placing an order you are authorising us to accept signature from another person at the same address on your behalf if you are not present at the time of delivery. We will not be able deliver large items to your premises unless there is someone present to accept them. Where you use our Click & Collect service, you authorise us to deliver to any person in possession of your Click & Collect Order Acknowledgement and who provides suitable documentary evidence of their identity.
8.5 Sainsbury's will be under no liability for any delay or failure to deliver the products within estimated timescales. We exclude liability in contract or tort (except liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence) for any loss, economic or otherwise incurred by or suffered by you in connection with any provisions included in these Conditions or by your use of our website.
8.6 It is your responsibility to ensure you check access to your premises and the space available for the product before placing your order.
8.7 It is your responsibility to tell us about any special delivery requirements or access issues when we phone you to schedule your delivery.
8.8 Do not book kitchen fitters/installation engineers until ordered goods have arrived, as we will not be held responsible for any associated costs.
8.9 You must ensure that all manufacturer guidelines are complied with in the sitting and use of goods.
8.10 If you aren't in for a scheduled delivery we reserve the right to charge you for storage, re-delivery or both
8.11 Wherever possible and where customers have provided us with their mobile telephone number, a text message will be sent with delivery updates. Where you have selected our Click & Collect delievry service we may contact you by phone or by text to remind you that your oder is available for collection.
8.12 Where requested by the delivery driver, products must be inspected upon delivery and refused if any damage is found. Failure to notify us of any visible damage may result in claims not being accepted if the item has been signed for. Damage should be notified to the driver and noted on their delivery pad at the time of refusal. In most cases, any damage issue will be resolved by our Customer Care Team at the point of delivery.
8.13 You must not fit or use a product that is damaged or different to that, which was ordered. Failure to comply with this will deem that you have accepted the goods and will be unable to return them because they are damaged or different to that ordered. Your statutory rights are not affected.
9.1 Charges for delivery, for recycling of old products and for installation are not included in the price of goods
9.2 We offer our installation and recycling service for domestic premises only in all of our delivery locations.
9.3 Delivery does not include installation of the goods or recycling of old goods unless this is purchased at the time of product order
9.4 We will recycle your old product on a like-for-like basis e.g. a fridge for a fridge.
9.5 Please give us 48 hours notice of any cancellation or amendment to your installation or recycling service. If you are unable to give us 48 hours notice, we reserve the right to not refund you for the service purchased. By selecting our installation or recycling service you agree to waive your Distance Selling rights to cancel this service. If you do not agree then you should not select these services. Your acceptance at checkout of our Terms and Conditions indicates your agreement to be bound by them.
10.1 You have the right to cancel your order up to 28 days following receipt. This includes your right to cancel your order under the Distance Selling Regulations (exclusions apply). If all items in your order are returned we will refund the delivery charge.
10.2 Should you wish to cancel your Click & Collect order, the same terms and conditions apply as for all home delivered items. Please call the Customer Care Team who will process your cancellation.
10.3 Your right to return does not apply to products which fall into the following categories unless they are faulty:
• Goods made to your specification cannot be returned for any reason. In exceptional circumstances, we may agree to accept returns and we reserve the right to charge a cancellation fee of 20% of the purchase price.
• Perishable goods.
• Personal grooming products, ink cartridges and headphones.
• Opened CD, DVD, Blue Ray, console computer games and tapes; opened recording media including blank DVD / CD disks, USB sticks / drives, SDHC cards memory sticks / cards and hard drives, software ; opened ink cartridges; camcorders and digital cameras that have been opened and charged; security sealed items that have had the seal broken.
• Items which cannot be re-sold for health and hygiene reasons once unwrapped. Please see our returns policy in the Returns Information section for full details.
10.4 The return process for appliances and upholstery may include a visit by our engineer who will assess the fault with or damage to your product and may perform repairs to these products on site at your home. Please note that we reserve the right to charge for this visit if the engineer can find no fault with the goods.
10.5 On faulty products, after the 28 day cancellation period, we reserve the right to offer a spare part or repair where appropriate.
10.6 We accept returns for selected items bought online in a limited number of our stores. Please see the Help section at sainsburys.co.uk for the full list and further details of which items can be returned to store.
10.7All refunds will be made to the debit or credit card on which the original purchase was made within 30 days.
10.8 Your statutory rights are not affected.
11.1 The Nectar point collection programme is subject to the Nectar collector rules which are set out in the Nectar registration pack, brochure, and are also available online at www.nectar.com. Sainsbury’s Supermarkets Ltd. reserve the right to alter or terminate the Nectar points offer at any time without the need for prior notice. You will earn Nectar points for every full £1 you spend with us on selected products. You will not earn Nectar points on delivery charges. Nectar points cannot be used as payment. Nectar points will be reclaimed on returned items.
12.1 Evouchers can only be used on this Website subject to these Terms and Conditions.
12.2 Evouchers are, and remain at all times the property of Sainsbury’s Supermarkets Ltd. The right to use an evoucher is personal to the original or named recipient and may not be transferred without permission. It may not be copied, reproduced or published either directly or indirectly. Evouchers distributed or circulated without our prior written approval are not valid and may be refused or cancelled. If you redeem or attempt to redeem an evoucher to which you are not entitled you may be committing an offence.
12.3 Sainsbury’s reserves the right to cancel or withdraw any evoucher or promotion at any time without notice and without reason. If we refuse an evoucher for any reason we will inform you before the order is despatched to give you the opportunity to cancel the order.
12.4 Unless otherwise stated an evoucher may be used only by the named recipient, it may only be used as stated on the evoucher and not in conjunction with any other offer or evoucher. Evouchers cannot be exchanged for cash, gift vouchers, delivery charges (except where stated) or for a whole order.
12.5 Certain goods may not be purchased using evouchers. These include mobile phone top-ups, gift vouchers and any other items that we may from time to time exclude. Any excluded goods will not count towards any qualifying condition for the use of the evoucher.
12.6 When an evoucher or other promotional offer applies to more than one product, the total value of the promotional offer or discount is split and shared across each applicable product in the correct ratio. If an item or part of the order is returned, then we will refund the relevant correct value.
14.1 The content of the sainsburys.co.uk Website is protected by copyright, trade marks, database and other intellectual property rights. You may retrieve and display the content of the Website on a computer screen, store such content in electronic form on disk (but not any server or other storage device connected to a network) or print one copy of such content for your own personal, non-commercial use, provided you keep intact all and any copyright and proprietary notices. You may not otherwise reproduce, modify, copy or distribute or use for commercial purposes any of the materials or content on the Website without written permission from Sainsbury’s.
16.1 You agree to indemnify and hold Sainsbury’s harmless from all liabilities, claims and expenses that arise out of the content you submit, post or transmit via Sainsbury’s Websites, or from your use/misuse of the Websites or the use/misuse by any person for whom you are responsible or from your violation of the Terms and Conditions.

1.1 'Sainsbury's' means Sainsbury's Supermarkets Limited. You are the customer. You agree to purchase services and goods from Sainsbury's subject to these Terms and Conditions which will apply to all transactions using our grocery service.
1.2 You must be 18 years or over and must complete the registration procedure to participate in our grocery service.
1.3 By registering for this service you agree that the details provided by you on registration, or at any time, are correct and complete. You must inform us immediately of any changes to the information that you provided when registering by updating your personal details. You must give us your real name, address, phone number, email address and any other details that we may require to process your order.
1.4 Your email address is essential in order for us to be able to supply you with important information such as order confirmations, and changes to the service. By registering with our grocery service, you accept that your email address may be used to supply you with such information.
1.5 Customers using our grocery service accept the need to have their credit or debit card details registered with Sainsbury's prior to ordering. These details are held in an encrypted form on the Sainsbury's database and will only be used for payment on account and/or payment of goods and services received by you using our grocery service.
1.6 It is your responsibility to keep your password secure. We reserve the right to modify or withdraw a password at our discretion.
1.7 We reserve the right to:
• Decline a new customer registration or suspend or terminate a customer’s account at any time and at our sole discretion.
• At our absolute discretion to terminate your access to all or part of this service with or without notice.
1.8 As the contract between you and Sainsbury's is not concluded until such time as you accept goods at the time of delivery, you are entitled to refuse some of or all of the goods before signing for them. You or someone aged 18 or over authorised by you must be available to inspect the goods at the time of delivery.
1.9 We will not be responsible for any loss or damage caused to the goods after the contract has been concluded. Otherwise, our liability to you shall be limited in contract and/or tort to the value of the order only, unless we have been negligent and that negligence has caused death or personal injury.
2.1 The prices shown on this Website at the time of ordering are guide prices. They are the in-store selling prices that day at the store at which your goods will be selected. The prices you will be charged for goods will be the actual prices displayed in that store on the day of delivery, including any promotional offers if applicable. You accept that prices of goods may, therefore, increase or decrease between the day of ordering and the day of delivery.
2.2 The weight of some goods may vary marginally from that ordered and the price may change to reflect actual weight - if it weighs a little less you pay a little less and if it weighs a little more you pay a little more. Prices in ‘My trolley’ are estimates only.
2.3 Where applicable, prices include Value Added Tax. The prices on the website reflect the current rate of VAT and not necessarily the rate you will be charged on the day of your delivery. More information regarding the VAT increase can be found within ‘help’ section of this Website.
2.4 You will not be charged until your order is ready for delivery. Payment will be taken on the day of delivery to cover the cost of all goods ordered and any alternative goods at the in-store selling price prevailing that day, as well as the delivery charge. Methods of payment are described in ‘payment methods’ within the ‘help’ section of this Website.
2.5 If, on the delivery date, we are unable to process your credit card payment, our Customer Care Team will contact you to request new details. Once these are authorised your delivery will be made.
3.1 Goods will not be supplied for the purposes of resale, and are only supplied for your own use as a consumer. We reserve the right to refuse orders that we consider are for commercial or non-domestic purposes, or subject to onward delivery by a 3rd party.
3.2 Transactions involving alcohol may only be made during normal licensing hours.
3.3 Food goods are supplied at the temperature appropriate to that food.
3.3 Goods are subject to availability and prevailing market conditions, If any goods you wish to purchase are not available, Sainsbury's will try to offer you 'alternative goods' similar to the goods you have requested, which may be a different price. Please note we will attempt to deliver substitute products should selected products be unavailable unless you request us not to do so.
3.4 We will tell you which items have been substituted and with what. You do not have to accept the alternative goods offered by Sainsbury's. Acceptance or rejection of any alternative goods does not occur until you have the opportunity to inspect them at the time of delivery. Where alternative products are accepted, customers should check product packaging for the most up to date nutritional information and allergen warnings, as these may differ from the products originally ordered.
3.5 Although we take all reasonable care to ensure that recipe and additional nutritional information appearing on the Website are correct at the time when the information was inputted onto the system, the information appearing on this Website at any time may not reflect the exact position at the moment you place an order. Customers are advised to check product packaging for nutritional information and allergen warnings before consumption, as product information is subject to change after publication of the recipe.
3.6 New food labels will begin to appear on our own brand food and drink products from September 2013. This is due to a new food labelling law and a new Government front-of-pack nutrition labelling scheme. For a short time as we transfer to the new labels, you may notice that traffic light colours and other information could differ on our groceries website from the same product on-shelf. You should always read the label to ensure you are following the most up-to-date information. This is especially important if you have an allergy or intolerance. Allergen information can be found highlighted in the ingredients list on the back of pack.
4.1 Orders for more than 12 units of a single product line may be fulfilled subject to availability and at the discretion of the store. Quantities of goods supplied per order may be limited if the order limits availability for other customers or creates a potential health and safety issue for our drivers. To ensure we have the greatest opportunity of fulfilling larger orders, please give us at least 7 days notice of your request via our Customer Care Team on 0800 328 1700. Our website Help Centre states the online order limits for alcohol purchases.
4.2 Due to concerns regarding the heath and safety of our delivery drivers, we reserve the right to limit orders of certain bulky items, such as bottled water. For examples of the product categories included and their limits, please see our ‘Help’ section for more details.
5.1 There is a £25 minimum order value on any grocery order. Orders over £40 will be charged a delivery fee of between £2.99 and £5.99. Orders under £40 will be charged a maximum delivery fee of £6.95.
5.2 Sainsbury's reserves the right to amend delivery fees at any time without notice.
5.3 Our Click & Collect service does not apply to grocery orders.
6.1 There is a £25 minimum order value on any grocery order. Orders over £40 will be charged a delivery fee of between £2.99 and £5.99. Orders under £40 will be charged a maximum delivery fee of £6.95. There is no delivery charge for orders over £100 booked for delivery on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday subject to 6.2 below.
6.2 From time to time we may conduct delivery trials in selected postcodes. As part of these trials, delivery charges may vary from our normal charges as stated above. The online 'book delivery' page will show the charges that will apply according to the delivery date, your delivery store and value of your shopping.
6.3 Delivery times are subject to availability.
6.4 Sainsbury’s reserves the right to withdraw this delivery offer at any time.
7.1 From time to time, we may provide you with evouchers, which may be redeemed by you against a first or subsequent order. Evouchers can be used only once, in accordance with the instructions detailed on the evoucher. Those instructions form part of the Terms and Conditions.
7.2 Evouchers cannot be used in respect of goods to be delivered after the expiry date - see evoucher for expiry date. Evouchers cannot be exchanged for cash, used for cash back or purchases from the tobacco kiosk, or of baby milk products, postage stamps and mobile phone vouchers. Evouchers are non-transferable and can only be used with the grocery service and cannot be used in store or on any of our online services.
7.3 Nectar points may be earned from shopping with our grocery service but you cannot redeem points against your order. For the full Terms and Conditions of Nectar membership please refer to the Nectar website homepage at www.nectar.com.
7.4 Evouchers can entitle you to either money off a particular product and/or in some cases a free product. The voucher will be made available to you via the website only and will state which product or products it applies to, the saving you may make, the evoucher code and the evoucher expiry date. Products are subject to availability while stocks last. If a product for which you have an evoucher is not available and we deliver a substitute the evoucher will automatically be applied to the substitute.
7.5 Evouchers made available to you on the website will state an expiry date. To use the evoucher you must place an order and have it delivered by this date.
7.6 Evouchers shown on sainsburys.co.uk can only be used on sainsburys.co.uk and may not be used on any other website. All evouchers are subject to these terms and conditions and any other specific conditions notified on the voucher or at the time of issue.
7.7 Each evoucher code may be used once only per customer and/or once per delivery address. An evoucher may not be used in conjunction with any other special offer or evoucher, unless otherwise stated.
7.8 Your use of an evoucher indicates your agreement to be bound by these terms and conditions.
7.9 Sainsbury’s reserves the right to withdraw or terminate any evoucher at any time. Sainsbury’s reserves the right to refuse to accept the use of an evoucher if fraud is suspected.
8.1 Changes to your order may be made up until 11pm on the day before delivery. Orders can only be cancelled via our website and not by email.
8.2 Should adverse weather conditions or any other event outside our reasonable control result in a later or cancelled delivery, we will contact you as soon as possible to re-schedule your delivery. All alternative delivery dates are subject to availability. Should you incur any loss as a direct result of such a delay our liability to you shall be limited to the value of the order only.
9.1 We will deliver to the address specified by you when you checkout your order. If you amend delivery details at checkout you will need to re-book a delivery slot. You may subsequently amend delivery details via ‘my account’.
9.2 We reserve the right to restrict or refuse delivery requests in certain areas at any time and without notice.
9.3 You or someone aged 18 or over on your behalf must be available to receive and inspect the delivery. Under no circumstances will goods be left unattended.
9.4 We operate a ‘Think 25’ policy. If the person receiving the goods looks under 25 we will request proof of age. We may retain the goods if proof of age or an alternative adult is not available.
9.5 Our Click & Collect service does not apply to grocery orders.
10.1 We will always deliver your order to the front door of your house or to the communal entrance to your block of flats. Our drivers may also deliver beyond this into your home. Please see our ‘providing a safe delivery’ section in our Delivery information section for further details.
10.2 Our delivery service does not include a detailed check of your shopping. However, if you have any queries, please call us on 0800 328 1700 after your delivery has taken place.
10.3 If your delivery is to a work address, we will always deliver to the ground floor communal entrance of your business’ building then contact you to meet our driver. We reserve the right to return your order to our store if you do not come to collect your order within a reasonable time. In this instance, we reserve the right to charge for any re-delivery. Please see re-delivery below.
11.1 If you are out for the time of your scheduled delivery, or are unable to meet our driver in your workplace within a reasonable time, we reserve the right to return your order to our store and to charge our standard delivery charge for re-delivery.
11.2 If you have not contacted us on 0800 328 1700 within 24 hours to rearrange a failed delivery, the order will be cancelled and refunded and we may retain the delivery fee.
12.1 If whilst inspecting the goods at the time of delivery, you identify goods you do not want, you are free to decline any product delivered by your driver for any reason (including the price on delivery). You can return them to the driver and ask him or her to take them away.
12.2 Any goods you return to our driver will be automatically refunded to the credit or debit card used to make the payment and shown as a refund on the next payment card statement. Refunds take up to 10 working days to reach your account.
12.3 After the driver has left, you have the right to return goods and/or faulty goods in line with Sainsbury’s store returns policy. Goods not returned to our driver at the time of delivery should be returned at your expense to your most convenient Sainsbury's store within 28 days in original packaging in saleable condition.
Please note, it is not possible to return baby food and milk, or frozen or perishable food and drink unless they are of poor quality or faulty, or where we have delivered goods that you did not order and you have not accepted them. DVDs and Games software where the seal has been broken cannot be returned. In order to obtain a refund, please bring your receipt with you.
12.4 We reserve the right to remove Nectar points from returned items.
13.1 We welcome feedback. Any customer comments should be addressed to the Sainsbury’s Customer Care Team – you will find an email link or address and telephone numbers listed on our website in the "Contact Us" section.
13.2 If we communicate with you by telephone, please note that some telephone calls may be recorded for training and security purposes.
14.1 J Sainsbury plc Group includes Sainsbury's Supermarkets Ltd, Sainsbury's Bank plc and Sainsbury's energy and phone services. Your personal details may be used by the J Sainsbury plc Group for market research and statistical analysis. We would also like to contact you occasionally with details of products, services and special offers from the Group that may interest you.
To do this we will look at the information provided by you and details of products you buy. If Sainsbury's Group acquires or develops other businesses the data may be used by the new business in a similar way.
