Preparation and Safety

Cooking instructions: Oven cook

Electric 200°C, Fan 180°C, Gas mark 7 (+5 mins), 35 mins Please don't grill! How to prepare at home: 1 Pre-heat oven. Remove the film but leave the cottage pie in its wooden tray. 2 Place on a baking tray in the centre of the oven (away from any element or flame) and cook for 35 mins. 3 Leave to stand for 2 mins before serving. Make sure it's piping hot. This recipe includes some raw ingredients and isn't suitable for microwaving. If frozen, defrost thoroughly before cooking.

Delicious cottage pieCharlie Bighams cottage pie tastes the nearest to homemade that I’ve found. Still expensive even when on offer at £8 as Charlie Bighams is pushing the boundaries with pricing, but they are superior quality.

Delicious!Unfortunately I live in a flat rather than a cottage so may not be fully qualified to give my opinion on this. With that said, I do know pies and this is an exceptionally good one. Good meat to potato ratio (potatio), quality ingredients and very filling.

Received free product

Better value if you buy the meal for 2 peopleI am recently widowed and often bought this ready meal to share with my husband. It was always very tasty, and I added one green vegetable, such as French beans.
The price of £6.50 for the one person's meal is exorbitant, but I find that when the two person meal is on offer, I can use 1/3rd or 1/2 and freeze the rest for a future occasion, which makes it more economical.

Too expensiveIt's a really nice cottage pie for a ready meal. In fact I'd be happy with it if I got it in a pub or something. It has nice buttery mash with a good texture. The mince seems good quality, not bitty or mushy, but good sized mince with a nice texture and flavour. The gravy is tasty too. Sometimes wine can make a gravy sour-tasting to the point you wonder why they bothered when it is ruining the flavour. But in this case the wine isn't overpowering.
And here I come to the cons. It is a really small pie, which I don't mind so much. When it comes to food I do subscribe to the less is more philosophy. But you have to take the size into account when judging the cost. This is priced in such a way I simply wouldn't pay it. Because it's such a tiny ready meal. I'd only pay this much for a ready meal if it were twice the size. Even with nectar price, it's still on the expensive side, without, it's a rip off. So nice as it is, I probably won't ever buy it again.

Lovely!I had this for the first time today, and really enjoyed it. The mince was tender, and the mash lovely and crispy on top. The flavour was just right for me as I don't like strong, herby flavours. It could possibly do with less salt, but, all in all, very nice, and I will be buying it again.
