Sustainably & ethically produced.
Ruby, clear and bright. Aromas of blackcurrants and raspberries with hints of violets and vanilla from well balanced French oak. Palate displays nutmeg and vanilla with elegant, polished tannins providing enough grip to reward patient cellaring.
Founded in 1996 by the Gabb family, Journey’s End is the most southerly planted vineyard in the Stellenbosch wine region, nestled among the picturesque Schapenberg Hills, beneath which lay 350 million year old decomposed granite soils. As well as fantastic views, the vineyards benefit from the cooling and cleansing south-easterly wind, known locally as the ‘Cape Doctor’, which comes in from nearby False Bay and the Atlantic Ocean.
Journey’s End focus on expressing this incredible terroir, while preserving the natural environment and wildlife with a sustainable approach to farming and all winemaking activities, as well as being a force for good in the local community.

History: Journeys End is the most Southerly vineyard in Stellenbosch. The final stop on the Stellenbosch Wine Route it is - literally the Journeys End! Purchased by the Gabb family in 1995 and completely replanted between 1996-1998, this prestigious wine estate focuses on site specific, small batch production of high quality wines.
Regional information: The Bluegum Merlot comes from W.O.Stellenbosch where the combination of the coastal climate and sunshine creates intense concentrated wines. The slopes are south facing and the vines were planted in 2000 on decomposed granite.
Vinification: Grapes were handpicked, then hand sorted, destemmed and crushed. The juice underwent a cold soak with the skins for 3 days. Fermentation took about 15 days with careful pumping over to ensure soft tannins. The wine underwent extended maceration for 2 weeks before being pressed off the skins. This allows for the extensive extraction of tannins which gives the wine structure and enables lengthy cellaring after bottling. The wine was matured in French oak barrels for 18 months.
