ExpensiveRidiculously expensive. I carelessly thought I was buying my usual 1000ml. In fact the 1000ml bottle was on offer and actually cheaper than this 400ml.

Delicious and easy way to get caloriesI don't understand the negative reviews. I think it tastes delicious and is refreshing straight from the fridge. I have colitis and find eating and maintaining weight a problem. This is an easy and enjoyable way of getting 200 calories. The strawberry flavour is okay but prefer this one.

Milk as Myth: The Semiotic Spectacle of Yazoo BanaThe Yazoo Banana Milk Drink presents itself not merely as a consumable product, but as a densely layered signifier — a semiotic playground where myth and modernity collide. Its bold, swirling design, the vibrant banana yellow spiraling across the surface, evokes the kinetic energy of youth culture and vitality. The bottle’s shape, anthropomorphically curvaceous, suggests a form meant to be held — intimate, ergonomic, bodily. It does not want to be a container; it wants to be a companion, almost as if the drink itself yearns for the consumer's grasp, to become part of a daily ritual, to offer not sustenance but identity.
The brand name “Yazoo,” written in exaggerated, comic-book typography, is loud, playful, and performative. It transcends its literal function — not merely a brand, but a chant, a cheer, an onomatopoeic echo of exuberance. It positions itself in the language of youth, of spontaneity and fun. There is an insistence on simplicity, yet this simplicity is artificial — a calculated regression into childhood, where banana is not a fruit, but a flavor archetype, an emblem of innocent indulgence. This is not the banana of the fruit bowl, but the banana of cartoons, milk moustaches, and schoolyard nostalgia.
The phrase “I’m High in Protein” anthropomorphizes the product, giving the milk drink a voice. The bottle speaks in the first person, as if to collapse the distance between object and subject, between commodity and consumer. This verbal ventriloquism turns the product into a pseudo-agent of health and reassurance, adopting the idioms of the wellness industry while masking its industrial origins. Here, nutritional value is not a fact, but a performative badge of virtue — milk not as nourishment, but as a moral good.
The additional presence of the 2-for-1 Alton Towers and Thorpe Park promotion extends the product’s meaning into the realm of spectacle. The milk drink becomes a ticket, a passage into realms of fantasy and adrenaline. It is not only ingested but exchanged, functioning within a broader economic ritual of leisure and reward. This collusion between milk and amusement park is a symbolic marriage — the domestic colliding with the spectacular, the kitchen table dissolving into rollercoaster tracks. Consumption here is no longer passive; it is an initiation into a lifestyle, a symbolic membership into a culture of pleasure.
Even the recycling instructions — “Remove my sleeve & recycle my bottle!” — are laced with affectation. The imperative is softened through the illusion of animation; the bottle once again speaks, this time as an eco-conscious participant in the consumer’s ethical journey. But this environmental gesture is sanitized, gestural — the sign of sustainability rather than its substance. The act of recycling becomes another mode of self-expression, another checkbox in the consumer’s performance of virtue.
Overpriced yuk! This used to be addictive, thick and creamy and delicious, now it barely resembles a milk shake. Overpriced Yuk! I can't even finish the small bottles in the fridge, they are that
unappetizing. It gets one star as it has no nasty additives or preservatives in it, so for that it gets one star.

What is ultimately consumed, then, is not banana milk but myth: the myth of health, the myth of youth, the myth of ethical consumption, and the myth of joy. Yazoo, with its cartoonish lettering, its playful voice, its promises of protein and park rides, conceals the machinery of its production beneath layers of cultural fantasy. It is not milk; it is metaphor. It is not drink; it is discourse.
