Dishwasher salt granules

Sainsbury's Dishwasher Salt Granules are suitable for all automatic dishwashers and for water softeners. Product has been optimised to avoid clogging and to last longer.

Although some dishwasher detergent products claim that one does not need to use dishwasher salt, it is recommend to keep the salt reservoir topped up for maximum effectiveness of your dishwasher.

Directions for use: Fill the salt reservoir according to the manufacturer's instructions. Check the salt level frequently, especially in hardwater areas and top up when required. This product does not enter the washing chamber and therefore does not cause the rusting of cutlery or the clouding of glassware.

Great pouring spout.This dishwasher salt is very easy to use due to the innovative design of the cardboard box it is supplied in, which will convert to a pouring spout. This makes filling the salt dispenser much easier and less messy.

Great saltThought I’d try the shops own brand to save money. Whilst it’s a smaller container, the corner spout makes it easy to pour. The salt is a decent size and hoping it’s just as effective as the branded ones.

Packaging failure: Cardboard is not moisture-proofI am writing this to highlight a significant issue with the current cardboard packaging of this dishwasher salt. While I appreciate the move toward plastic-free materials, using unlined cardboard for a highly hygroscopic substance like salt is a major oversight.

In a standard domestic kitchen, the salt naturally absorbs moisture from the air. Without a polyethylene liner or a Tetra Pak-style moisture barrier, the salt eventually turns into a liquid brine that leaks through the bottom of the box.

The impact on my home:

Cabinetry Damage: The salt solution leaked onto my wooden shelving, causing staining and potential structural warping.

Contamination: The liquid soaked into adjacent items, ruining a box of birdseed and my laundry powder.

Packaging Failure: The box lost all structural integrity and fell apart when lifted, creating a significant mess.

Salt requires an airtight or moisture-proof barrier to be "fit for purpose" in a home environment. If you purchase this, I strongly recommend immediately transferring it to a sealed plastic or glass container to avoid damage to your woodwork and other groceries.

To the Manufacturer: Please consider a moisture-resistant liner. Saving on packaging costs should not come at the expense of your customers' property.

"The salt works perfectly! Five stars for its ability to soften water. However, like a 1970s Ford Pinto, the packaging has a slight 'catastrophic failure' design flaw. Since there isn't a category in this review for 'product dissolved and destroyed my wooden furniture,' I’ll just focus on the salt.

It's a shame the unlined cardboard isn't waterproof, because once it absorbed enough air moisture to turn into a liquid brine, it 'exploded' all over my cupboard, ruining my birdseed and laundry powder. But hey, the salt that didn't leak out worked great in the machine! If you don't mind your pantry being a chemical spill site, this is the product for you."

The best saltThis salt is much better than any others (including branded) that I've used, It's my go-to product. Because the rocks are slightly larger, the salt compartment fills with no fuss and zero waste. Excellent
