Sausage Rolls

320g Sainsbury's Ready Rolled Puff Pastry

400g Sausagemeat

1 Egg, beaten

2 tbsp Cold Water

Salt

Pepper

Nigella Seeds or Sesame Seeds or Crushed Chilli Flakes for topping

You will need:

• large knife
• mixing bowl
• mixing spoon
• pastry brush
• fork
• baking parchment
• wire rack

1. Pre-heat the oven to 200°C, Fan 180°C, Gas 6.
2. Unroll the pastry and cut in half length-ways to form two strips of pastry.
3. In a large mixing bowl mix together the sausagemeat with 2 tbsp cold water, salt and pepper, ensuring everything is well mixed. 
4. Divide the sausagemeat mixture in two and roll each half into a long cylindrical shape which is the same length as your pastry strips.
5. Place the sausagemeat into the middle of the pastry strip, leaving a border along the length of the pastry.
6. Brush with the beaten egg, roll one edge of the pastry over the sausagemeat and continue to roll until all the sausagemeat is encased. Seal the pastry using a fork.
7. Cut the sausage rolls into 5cm pieces and arrange on a baking tray lined with baking parchment.
8. Brush the sausage rolls with the beaten egg and sprinkle with either nigella seeds, sesame seeds or crushed chilli flakes.
9. Bake for 30-35 mins until the pastry is golden and crisp.
10. Transfer to a wire rack and leave to cool.

For use by date: see front of pack. Keep refrigerated. Once opened, use within 3 days and do not exceed the use by date.

For best quality, freeze as soon as possible after purchase and always within the use by date. Once frozen consume within 1 month. Defrost thoroughly and use within 24 hours. Do not refreeze once defrosted.
