Best kimchi by a long distanceThis kimchi is probably as close to authentic as you'll get at a supermarket. The poor reviews are frustrating because it's ok not to like something but you can't complain because it's not bland and westernised enough for you, if you don't actually like the spice, flavour, strong fermentation of real kimchi then don't review real kimchi. For reference i didn't personally find this particularly spicy at all and I definitely don't have an extreme palate, I've made an effort to appreciate spice but lots of spicy curries are too hot for me.

It has a good crunch and flavour, quite fizzy when opened which is a mark of a good fermentation. Yes it is more expensive than the alternative brand and I'm not sure whether i can afford it regularly but that doesn't mean it doesn't deserve the price. I'm not familiar with kimchi production so I'm not quite sure if the cost is totally justified but I'm pretty sure it's worth the price difference of the leading alternative at sainsburys, it's certainly better than the alternative which is bland, tastes less fermented (often poor quality kimchi is fermented for less time to cut costs) and it's clearly bulked up with excess carrot fillers and inedible cabbage butts (the carrot should just complement the cabbage which it does in this one) so actually the price per kg might be closer than we realise. Plus this comes in glass a sure way to know when manufactures care about the quality of their product wheras the other comes in leaky plastic.

Another point is that my gut issues have been far less the few months I've been eating this version vs roughly a year I've been eating the alternative so that's something to factor if you're eating kimchi for the health benefits.

Overall i think it you're going to buy it then while this doesn't win on face value cost it wins on flavour and i suspect health benefits (and as i said factoring in inedible chunks in the alternative might not be too badly priced) plus you can reuse or recycle the jar and feel better about it.

WOW!Bought this to try as Ive bought many Kimchi here in the UK and in Vancouver (where it smells to high heaven). Opened jar and ate straight from jar wow it fizzled and it was strong and powerful. Then ate with grilled chicken and plain rice so much better it mellowed but tasted amazing. Definitely will buy again probably the best kimchi Ive tried
Yes its expensive but as with everything you get what you pay for. Its full of veg.

Amazing tasteThis was the best kimchi we have tried from a supermarket, the taste was authentic but so pleasant on the palate, it fizzed when we opened it so truly fermented. It goes with so many things as it wasn’t completely overpowering, yummy.
