Dark ale
DARK ALE
Nuts, caramel, toasted
Dark ales can be remarkably complex and are traditionally British ales like brown beers and milds. Brown ales have a dark amber to tawny brown body with aromas and flavours of toffee, caramel and subtle liquorice. These are pretty sweet beers with minimal bitterness. Then there’s mild, a generally a dark, low-ABV ale, often with roasted and chocolate characters.
Roasts, BBQs, lasagne, bolognese and mushroom dishes
Dark ales can wonderfully complement roast meats, beef and lamb particularly. Meaty stews are natural partners very and the dark tones of the beer will also score a direct hit with mushroom dishes, lasagne, shepherd's pie and barbecued food. Dessert is very well served by dark ales, with the chocolate notes ensuring they effortlessly complement chocolate desserts.
