Pale ale
PALE ALE
Bitter, often with tropical or citrus flavours
Golden to copper in colour and often bitter in taste, pale ales encompass a variety of different types, including bitter, golden ale and India pale ale (IPA). Pale ales come with a boat-load of aromas and a biscuity sweetness. They can be slightly sharp, are well rounded and often have a long bitter finish.
Hamburgers, Mexican food and fish & chips
The diversity of flavour and aroma found in pale ales means there are few foods it won’t partner well. Deft enough to complement everything from fish and chips to roasted meats and medium spiced curries. Then there's cheese, with lighter pale ales bringing out the best in goat's cheese, while full-on IPAs will spike the fruity sweetness of a mature cheddar.
